I'm familiar only with photo post procesing, but as I know there aren't so many differences between 3d and photo post proces. About tips - you can find It allover the net, and, as I know, there aren't common methods in this kind of work, maybe except adding glow, noise, contrast effects and this kind of stuff, but about it You can read on net too.
